MEM Projects

Offshore Energy Development to 2030

Working with a UK Region MEM developed and has managed a project to map the deployment of offshore renewables (wind, wave and tidal) to 2030. The project was formed around the use of a GIS system that can be used for future policy development activity and potentially a developer site selection aide. The six month assignment involved the following stages:

Project Definition

Development of the project, its outputs and methodology.

Delivery Consultant Selection

Selection of a delivery consultant with GIS and technical capability.

Industry Development Assumptions

Liaison with industry stakeholders to agree technology development /resource utilisation assumptions.

Resource and Hard Constraints Mapping

GIS mapping of the resource for each technology and the hard constraints that will not permit deployment.

Capacity Development

Using the resource information, hard constraints and overlaying soft constraints (e.g. shipping activity) to define likely development areas and associated capacities that can be deployed.

Economic Assessment

An economic impact assessment of development to 2030 based on the derived capacity estimates. The project provides deployment visibility for the industry alongside vital information to assist with marine spatial planning and the Strategic Environmental Assessment for wave and tidal now underway in the UK.
