Marine Energy Support Contract - 2010/11
The South West of England is one of the richest marine energy resource areas in Europe, with excellent wave and offshore wind resource, alongside the second highest tidal range in the world in the Severn Estuary. The Regional Development Agency have been proactive in developing this unique position, through the creation of a Marine Renewables Research Institute (PRIMaRE) and the installation of the wave energy test facility in Wave Hub. Since late 2008, MEM has provided support activities to the Regional Development Agency and in May 2010 MEM won a major support contract to assist in the development of the regions marine energy capability.
This framework contract provides wide ranging support including:
- Strategic development of the Marine Renewables Sector
- Resource assessment and development activity
- Renewables representation in developing Marine Conservation Zones
- Supply chain development
- Infrastructure assessment and development
- Promotion of the sector
