Offshore wind energy projects are now common place with the new challenge being to move the industry into deeper water over the next decade. Pre commercial Wave and Tidal projects are now being installed globally. A device test station (EMEC) is operational in Scotland, where the first seabed leases for commercial projects have also being granted. Wave Hub in South West England has also been installed during summer 2010 and test machines are present in Spain, Portugal and Denmark. Canada is planning a tidal test station and the US is installing a wave energy facility. Devices are also installed or planned in Australia, Ireland and other parts of Scandinavia.
